Operations

The grass runway is 2700′ long and we keep it mowed to approximately 40’ wide. WV77 currently operates as a private airport. We now have 2 hangars and a small office with a mix of light-sport, ultralight, and normal category airplanes.

Wings and Wheels Festival at Hinton-Alderson Airport, 2019

Please contact On Course Aviation LLC if you would like to fly into the airfield or are interested in hangar space for your aircraft. All aircraft operating on or into WV77 must have a hold harmless agreement on file. You can download the hold harmless agreement from the link at the bottom of this page or contact the airport manager via email or phone to receive a copy. Please email a scanned copy, a photo, or mail a copy. Hold harmless forms are kept on file and can be approved for multiple flights.

The airport is usually in great shape from late May until early November. Operations from November to May must be approved in advance as the airfield may be quite wet depending on snow and rain and could be unusable. 2021 WV77 Layout

For many years we have hosted an airplane get together on the 2nd Saturday in September. At one time the event was quite large but it became harder to manage for Mom as she got older. In 2018 we attempted to invigorate the event by combining with an auto show. We (I’m including my cousin Rob here) learned a lot about car shows and hosting events. So in 2019, we moved the event to 21 September which allowed the car show part of our Wings and Wheels event to be listed with the area car show associations. See my blog post for updates and more information. Check out our FaceBook page at https://www.facebook.com/WingsandWheelsPenceSprings

Glamping (Glamorous Camping) at the Airport

We have three Glamping sites at the airport! Beautifully appointed tents each with gorgeous river views, a picnic area, and fire pit. You can taxi right up to your tent site. Each tent has a queen size memory foam bed complete with blankets and linens and towels. There are a variety of nearby activities you can experience during your stay, including Kayaking and floating on the river….and the New River Gorge National Park, with its white water rafting and ziplines, is just a ride away! Rental cars are available at KLWB. Don’t want a car? Some local rafting companies will come to pick you up and put you in the Greenbrier River and then meet you at the end and return you to the airport! There is a hot shower at the hangar along with a bathroom.  Each site also comes with its own “Loo tent” for those personal moments if you don’t feel like a short walk to the hangar.  There is an extra 6 man tent that you can set up for the kids or the extra folks with you. We do limit each site to 2 airplanes and 6 total campers. Though we think of this as a fly-in kind of place, driving in is fine! Get Away Glamping on the Greenbrier is a “Leave No Trace” operation, so we ask that it looks untouched when you leave! We’ll take care of the linens! To book our sites, go toAirBnB, select campsite locations > West Virginia, and search for CubSkyhawk, or Stearman, or go to Hipcamp and search for Get Away Glamping on the Greenbrier. You can also call Kelly with inquiries at 757-810-6974.

We look forward to hosting you soon!
